iOS: Nintendo console emulator will have online multiplayer for DS

Delta, an emulator for several older Nintendo consoles, has announced that it will have an online multiplayer option on iOS. Soon, iPhone users will be able to play Nintendo DS games with other people — including Android users and other emulators. Nintendo ended its DS online multiplayer service in 2014.

Delta is one of the most popular emulators for Apple systems. The app made its debut on iOS in April of this year when the big tech company released these types of programs on the App Store. In addition to the Nintendo DS, Delta also emulates the Nintendo, Super Nintendo, Nintendo 64 and all Game Boys.

Riley Testut, the creator of the emulator, announced the feature in a post on Threads. However, Testut did not reveal the exact date of when the multiplayer will go online. The confirmation of cross-platform functionality (for other emulators and Android) was confirmed by the developer when responding to a user on the social network.

In other answers, Testut gave more details about how Nintendo DS multiplayer works in Delta. For example, users will be able to earn special gifts when trading Pokémon games. The developer said that during multiplayer testing he received a special Pokémon.

In the post in which he revealed the news, Testut showed a Mario Kart DS race. According to the developer, Delta has a base of 10 million players.

The post generated a flood of responses celebrating the new addition to the Delta. Even though it is a console from the 2000s, the Nintendo DS has a fan base. For now, there are no plans to release multiplayer for the other emulated consoles.

Of the devices Delta emulates, the one that would benefit the most from this would be Game Boy games. This console had an accessory called the Game Link Cable, allowing players to connect their Game Boys for local multiplayer.
