If you usually buy games on different platforms and when you see a promotion you can’t remember if you’ve already purchased, GOG Galaxy 2.0 can help you. It is a program that works as an aggregator of game libraries, in which you can manage in one place all your Steam games, Origin, Epic, in addition to gog itself. Learn what GOG Galaxy 2.0 is, where to download, and how it works.
What is GOG Galaxy?
The GOG Galaxy 2.0 is the official client of the GOG.COM. In addition to serving to manage the games in the store itself, it also functions as an aggregator of libraries of titles from other services such as Steam, Epic, Uplay and Origin, as well as consoles such as Xbox Live and PlayStation Network.
That way, you have access to all games purchased on different platforms in one place. The program also has social networking features such as friends list, integrated chat, time statistics played and list of unlocked achievements.
In addition to organizing games by service, you can create custom lists, evaluate titles, edit displayed information, and hide unwanted games from the library.
Gog Galaxy 2.0 is free, available for Windows and Mac OS X, and can be downloaded from the official website.
How does GOG Galaxy work?
Before using GOG Galaxy 2.0, you must have (or make) an account on GOG.COM. Both registration on the platform and downloading the program are free.
GOG Galaxy 2.0 works with a system of integrations between platforms via plugins. The project is open source, which allows the community itself to develop integrations with stores not yet officially supported.
For now, only Xbox Live and Epic have official integrations. Connections to Origin, PlayStation Network, Steam and Uplay were not created by GOG, but can be added by the program itself. For integrations with other platforms, such as Twitch, you must install the plugin manually.
To install, uninstall, or run a game from another platform through GOG Galaxy 2.0, you must also have the store customer installed on the PC or Mac. The program only synchronizes the information; the actions are still performed by the official client of each service.
How to sync GOG Galaxy with Steam (and other platforms)
After you log in to GOG Galaxy 2.0, your game GOG.COM sync automatically. To add titles purchased on other services, follow the steps below.
- On the main screen, go to “Settings” by clicking on the “gear” icon;
- Click “Integrations”;
- Choose the service you want to sync and click “Connect”;
- Enter the access data of the platform in question (email, password and authentication code);
- After integration, the games will be imported into the program. Depending on the size of the library, this process may take a few minutes.
Still on the Settings screen, by clicking “Features”, you can configure some extra options for integrations, such as exiting GOG Galaxy 2.0 when closing the game, importing metadata, and other settings.
Is the GOG Galaxy 2.0 safe?
GOG Galaxy 2.0 was developed by GOG.COM, which is the digital game distribution platform subsidiary of CD Projekt Red, responsible for games such as The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077.
The store began selling old computer games updated for recent hardware in 2008, and currently already markets releases and numerous other games without DRM protection. Integration with other stores is done via official APIs of the services themselves, which theoretically ensures that your information is not stored by GOG.
As for community-created plugins, there is a development guide published by the platform with the guidelines that projects must follow. Either way, before installing a new plugin, look for information from official program sources, or install only those made available on GOG Galaxy 2.0 itself.
According to the official website, the program is in beta phase, that is, it is still under development, is constantly updated, and may present bugs. For more information, see the FAQ.
