Sony has announced another studio acquisition. Now it was the turn of firesprite, from Liverpool, England. They were responsible for titles considered smaller but important, such as The Playroom and The Playroom VR, both on PS4, in addition to Run Sackboy! Run!, released for Android and iOS phones in 2015.
The Playroom was the game responsible for presenting news of DualShock 4 and also the PlayStation camera on ps4. The VR version used several functions of the PS VR to show the capacity of the Sony display.
Sackboy Run! Run, run, it’s a simple game, but it was one of Sony’s efforts to take its characters to mobile platforms and also marked Sackboy’s debut on mobile phones – the cloth doll is the protagonist of the LittleBigPlanetbrand, which is gone.
According to Sony, “Firesprite is a creative and ambitious studio that excels at creating experiences that truly demonstrate the potential of console hardware.” Hermen Hulst, director of PlayStation Worldwide Studios, also says that “the team’s technical and creative capabilities will be key to the growth of our amazing catalog of exclusive games, and I think you’ll be excited about what’s to come.”
The value of the acquisition was not disclosed by the two parties involved.
Firesprite thanks PlayStation
Firesprite studio was founded in 2012 and seems well pleased to now be part of sony’s family. They have also released other games off PlayStation platforms, but that should change from now on.
“First of all, I would like to thank PlayStation and its community for their warm welcome to this family of amazing creators. I would also like to thank all of our past and present Sprites who have helped shape the Firesprite we know today. I’m proud of the talent we have at Firesprite and you’ll continue to hear and see more of us soon,” wrote Graeme Ankers, director of the studio, on PS Blog.
