Microsoft releases new Windows app for macOS, iPhone and Android

Microsoft announced this Thursday (19) the new Windows app for macOS, iOS and Android — on this platform still in beta phase. The app replaces other programs used to access a version of Windows in the cloud. In this way, applications such as Windows 365, Azure Virtual Desktop and Remote Desktop are now integrated into the Windows app.

Microsoft’s new program is also compatible with Windows 10 and 11 and can be accessed via browsers. If you found it strange to access a Windows cloud from within Windows itself, it’s worth remembering that this option is useful for those who work in a hybrid mode or from home.

In these cases, the company may choose to have the employee use a virtual machine. This means of access is safer than letting the employee use their personal computer to access company files, preventing confidential documents from being leaked.

Windows app for iOS and Android is released

The launch of the new Windows application comes almost a year after its testing began. Microsoft’s proposal is to unify access to its operating system’s virtual machines.

In the announcement of the new app, Microsoft highlights that the app allows you to manage and access multiple accounts (and virtual machines) from the same place. For example, if you have access to a common Azure cloud account and virtual machine, you can access them directly from the Windows App.

The application supports multiple monitors and, most interestingly, allows you to connect USB devices and use them as if you were using Windows in the cloud. The user can use webcams, external HDDs/SSDs and even printers connected to the cell phone.

Availability and compatibility

Anyone who has the Remote Desktop application will receive an automatic update to the Windows app. In Brazil, the new program is already available in the Microsoft Store. Tecnoblog searched for the application in the App Store, but it did not appear in our search.

According to The Verge, the Windows App only works for Microsoft business and school accounts. In addition to the iPhone, iPads are also compatible with the new app from the big tech company.
