It’s easier to repair the iPhone 16

The iPhone 16 brought new features such as a faster chip and a camera control button, but under the hood, Apple also made repairs easier for this generation of smartphones. The new construction makes it easier to disassemble the devices, making it possible to replace more parts compared to previous models.

One of the main repairs on smartphones is replacing the battery, and this has become much easier in the iPhone 16 line. The component is now glued with an ionic adhesive, which can be removed using a conventional 9v battery (the rectangular one, you know?), making the process much faster and simpler. In previous generations, removing the glue was not an easy task.

The Face ID sensor has also been changed, and the TrueDepth camera can now be replaced without any major difficulties. The LiDAR scanner, exclusive to the Pro and Pro Max models, can also be replaced starting with the iPhone 16.

The new features are very welcome, especially considering that Apple has also launched a new tool integrated into iOS called Repair Assistant. The solution allows users and technicians to configure replacement parts and link components properly. This should solve situations like True Tone, which only worked on screens replaced by official Apple repair shops.

In addition to hardware repair solutions, Apple is also betting on a feature that can assist with software repairs. With an iPhone 16, it will be possible to restore iOS 18 using another nearby iPhone, without the need to perform the restore using a Windows or Mac computer.

It is worth noting that Apple has been making efforts to make it easier to repair its devices for some time now. In 2022, the company began selling original iPhone parts and components so that consumers can make their own repairs. The initiative is still restricted to the United States, however.

Battery replacement is more expensive on the iPhone 16 Pro

Even though Apple has made the repair process easier, it’s not all sunshine and rainbows. The company has started charging more for battery replacements on its top-of-the-line smartphones.

Previously, Apple charged $99 for battery replacement on the Pro and Pro Max lines, but after the launch the price rose to $119.
