iPhone 17 Slim could Debut New Design and cost more than Pro Max

New information about a possible iPhone 17 Slim indicates that the model will be positioned by Apple at the top of the family’s line, costing more than the Pro Max version. The phone should be considerably thinner, but the screen size should be between the 6.1 and 6.7 inches of the current models.

For now, Apple has yet to say what the design of the iPhone 17 Slim will be, other than the fact that it will be “considerably thinner.” Among the features being considered are an aluminium chassis, a smaller Dynamic Island on the screen, and centred rear cameras.

The screen should be between 6.12 inches (iPhone 15 size) and 6.69 inches (iPhone 15 Pro Max). Despite this, it should be the most expensive new model. Currently, this position is occupied by the iPhone 15 Pro Max, which costs US$ 1,200 in the US.

The iPhone 17 is expected to arrive in September 2025. Until then, we will see the iPhone 16 in a few months, probably in September 2024.

iPhone 17 Slim could follow in the footsteps of the iPhone X

Details about the project were obtained by The Information, after speaking with three anonymous sources. The publication says that the iPhone 17 will have a redesign along the lines of the iPhone X, from 2017.

The iPhone X marked a major change in the look of the company’s smartphones, with a significantly larger screen, the elimination of the Home button with Touch ID, and the adoption of Face ID. It was released in the same year as the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus and was more expensive than them. At the time, the $999 price tag caused shock. The iPhone 17 Slim could repeat this strategy.

Apple is expected to make more changes to the iPhone lineup

The first reports of a possible iPhone 17 Slim emerged weeks ago, from analysts Jeff Pu and Ross Young. The information obtained by Pu and Young also points to a model with a screen between 6.55 and 6.6 inches. Pu also claims that the iPhone 17 Pro Max will have a 6.9-inch screen, “making room” for a new mid-range model in the family.

The Plus model, which combines the base model’s specs and a larger display, is set to be discontinued. As 9to5Mac points out, Apple has been releasing four iPhone variants every year for a while now, but one of them has always struggled to sell.

The iPhone 12 Mini and iPhone 13 Mini failed to find enough takers on small screens. It looks like the iPhone 14 Plus and iPhone 15 Plus may be headed down the same path, without enough buyers to justify their existence.
