Sony refunds PlayStation Store purchases made within the last 14 days if you have not yet started downloading the game, expansion, DLC, season pass content, or in-game consumable items (such as skins and virtual currency). You don’t need to give a reason: just access the PSN support chat, and the amount will be refunded. You can also ask for your money back when you cancel a PS Plus subscription.
How to request a refund for PlayStation or PS Plus games
You need to contact PlayStation via support chat to request a refund for the game or PS Plus subscription.
The chargeback will be made directly to the credit or debit card used for the purchase. If you have consumed funds from your PSN Digital Wallet, the money will be returned there.
You do not need to provide a reason for cancelling your purchase as per Sony’s refund policy. Maybe you regretted it, or maybe you even found a better deal elsewhere.
To request a refund for a game, DLC, season pass, or PS Plus, please do the following:
- Go to the PlayStation support page.
- Click on “Online assistant”;
- Enter your first name and last name;
- In the chat, enter your PSN login email;
- Enter your PSN username;
- Follow the instructions to speak with an attendant;
- Request a refund via chat.
How long does a PSN refund take?
A chargeback on your credit card statement may take one to two billing cycles, depending on your bank and card. Returning via debit card is also dependent on the policies of your bank, which will be responsible for processing the refund from Sony.
If you purchased the game with PSN Wallet funds, it may take up to 24 hours to return it. That is, the repayment term depends on the payment method.
A credit card purchase cannot be refunded to your PSN wallet; the chargeback will have to go through the bank.
What if the purchase was made using a card plus wallet funds? In this case, the refund will be made for both payment methods.
Can I cancel the PS Plus subscription and ask for a refund?
Yes, you have 14 calendar days after purchase to request a refund on any PlayStation Store subscription, including PS Plus Essential, Extra and Deluxe.
You can reverse your purchase of a monthly, quarterly, or annual subscription to PS Plus. However, Sony may refund a prorated amount, determined on a case-by-case basis; the company explains:
“…we may reduce the amount of your refund based on how much you have already used the service. For example, if a player purchases a 12-month subscription to PlayStation Plus and requests a refund seven days after the date of purchase, the refund amount may be reduced to reflect subscription usage such as online gaming, monthly game downloads, use of cloud storage etc.”
The exact amount of your PS Plus refund will be calculated by Sony and communicated via support chat.
Which games, DLCs, and season passes allow refunds?
Everyone who meets these conditions: if the purchase was made through PSN; if the digital content was purchased no more than 14 calendar days ago; and if the download has not yet started. This goes for any game, expansion, DLC (downloadable content) or season pass content.
You will not be able to cancel your purchase if you have already started downloading digital content, even if you accidentally did so. You lose your right to a refund the moment you start your download, per Sony’s cancellation policy.
Sony makes only one exception: if the game, expansion or DLC has bugs, you can ask for a refund even after downloading. That is, this is only valid if the content is defective, with failures or crashes – it is not valid if you simply did not like the game.
Which skins and virtual currencies allow refunds?
All that have been purchased via PSN within the last 14 calendar days and whose download has not started. You can request a refund for consumable items such as skins, FIFA coins, and GTA money, among others.
Consumable items are activated as soon as you start the game in question: once you start playing, you will no longer be able to cancel the transaction. And if you buy a skin or virtual coins while playing, the in-game item will be activated immediately and cannot be refunded.
Can I request a refund for pre-order games?
Yes. You can request a refund at any time during the pre-order, i.e. before the release of the digital content; and up to 14 days after launch if you haven’t started the download.
By cancelling the game purchase, you will also no longer have access to immediate access content such as exclusive wallpapers and avatars.
How to request a refund for a game through the PS4 or PS5 interface?
It is not possible to request a refund for purchases via PS4 or PS5: you need to access the PlayStation support chat on a mobile phone or PC, following the steps above.
How long can I play to claim a refund from PSN?
It is not possible to request a refund for games you have started playing. In fact, you can’t even begin to download the game! The only exception is if the game is defective.
The game started downloading automatically, can I request a refund?
No, unless the game is faulty. In order not to automatically download content, and lose the right to a refund, turn off automatic download: on PS4, go to Settings > System > Automatic Downloads and uncheck Application Update Files.
I bought a bundle with more than one PlayStation game, can I request a refund?
Yes: for game packs (pay 2 get 3 free types), which usually appear in promotions, you can cancel the purchase and ask for a refund. However, you must respect the 14 calendar days rule, and you must not have started downloading any of the items in the package.
I bought the game off PSN, can I ask for a refund?
Purchases made outside of PSN are non-refundable by Sony: this includes games redeemed via vouchers or from other games. You will have to go back to the store or website where the item was purchased.
Can I claim a refund for PSN wallet top-ups?

I paid to change my PSN name, can I cancel and ask for a refund?
