How to install fonts in Adobe Photoshop

Installing fonts in Photoshop is a very simple process, but not everyone knows how to do it. You need to have the font files on hand, but contrary to what some people think, you need to install them on your computer’s operating system, so that Adobe Photoshop recognizes them and includes them in its own font catalog.

How to install fonts in Photoshop

In fact, you don’t install fonts directly in Adobe Photoshop, but in the registry of the operating system (Windows or macOS). Since all fonts on the system can be used by installed programs including Adobe Photoshop.

See how to install fonts on Windows or macOS below.

How to install fonts on Windows

There are three ways to install fonts on Windows. Let’s look at each of them:

method 1

  1. Open File Explorer;
  2. Go to the “C:\Windows\Fonts” folder. You can also access it through the Windows Run command, typing “%windir%\fonts” (without quotes) and pressing Enter;
  3. Move or copy the new font file into the folder, this should install automatically. If the source is compressed, open the package and extract the file.

method 2

  1. Open File Explorer;
  2. Go to the folder where you saved the font file;
  3. Right-click on the font file and click on “Install” or “Install for all users”.
  4. Windows will run the font installation.

method 3

The third method only works with Windows 10 as it depends on the Microsoft Store.

  1. Click on Start and then on “Settings” (the gear symbol);
  2. Click on “Personalization” and then on “Fonts”;
  3. Click on “Download more fonts from Microsoft Store”;
  4. Click on the font you want to install and then on “Get”;
  5. Windows 10 will install the font automatically.

How to install fonts on macOS

Installing fonts on macOS is easier than on Windows. Check it out:

  1. Open Finder;
  2. Go to the folder where you saved the font file;
  3. Double-click on the file and then on the “Install font” button;
  4. macOS will run the font installation.

Once installed and operating system independent, the new font will be displayed as an option to use Photoshop.
