If you don’t live in a cave, you’ve heard of TikTok and it’s natural to want to understand how this social network works.

The first step is to download the application, which is available for Android and iOS (iPhone). Even before creating an account, you can view public videos on the “Popular” tab on the website or the app’s home screen.

There are several ways to create a Tik Tok account, more precisely ten of them:

How to create a TikTok account With the Phone number or E-mail address

Touch “Me” on TikTok (the last menu icon at the bottom of the screen);
You will be informed that you need an account to continue;
Tap on “Create an account with your phone or email”;
Enter your phone number and the confirmation code you receive; Or enter your email address and create a username and password.

Remember that your email address and cell phone number can also be used to recover your password. Therefore, it is advised that you enter a valid email address and phone number and double-check before confirming your account.

Touch “Me” (the last menu icon at the bottom of the screen);
You will be informed that you need an account to continue;
Touch the corresponding social network icon and enter your credentials;
Currently, TikTok accepts Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, VK, Line and KakaoTalk. Social networks will only appear if you have them installed on your smartphone. Some may be “hidden”. There is an arrow that shows them all.

Touch “Me” (the last menu icon at the bottom of the screen);
You will be informed that you need an account to continue;
Tap “Sign in with Apple” on iPhone. Or the Google icon, next to social networks, on Android.

After you create an account, the “I” icon will give you access to your TikTok profile. There, you can tap “Edit profile” and make all necessary adjustments such as changing the profile photo or video, your name, your username (your @), your account description and including links from Instagram and your YouTube channel. There are also others.

How to change your username on TikTok

If you just want to change your username (yours @)

Go to your “Me” profile page on TikTok;
Tap on ‘Edit profile’;
Touch your current username;
Enter your new username in TikTok with up to 24 characters (may contain letters, numbers, underscores and periods, special characters are not accepted).

Remember that the username can only be changed once, every 30 days.

Change the TikTok language

Tik Tok is currently available in 38 languages. To change do the following:

Go to your profile page under “Me”;
Touch the three dots in the upper right corner (the menu);
Under “General”, select “Language” and add the desired language.

Privacy settings

Last but not least, TikTok’s privacy settings are also available in the menu. I suggest some that can help in this first moment.

Go to your “Me” profile page;
Touch the three dots in the upper right corner (the menu);
Now, access “Privacy and Security”;
There, adjust whether you want your account to be private and for others to find it.

You can also choose:

Who can post comments
Who can react to your videos
Who can do a duet with you
Who can send messages to you
Who can see the videos you like
Whether or not to download videos
Set up a comment filter
Set up a blacklist

Check back as needed in these settings to adjust them as needed.
