Apple launched the new iPhone 16 line on Monday (9), consisting of four high-end phones. All of them feature Apple Intelligence as their main new feature, a generative artificial intelligence tool that can control various aspects of the devices.

In short, Apple continues to work with two screen sizes: 6.1 inches (in the base and Pro) and 6.7 inches (in the Plus and Pro Max). From there, each device has its own attributes, such as greater processing power or more current-generation cameras.

The arrival of the iPhone is already a major event in itself. However, this year, Apple announced its generative AI for mobile phones, Apple Intelligence. The new feature is expected to debut on the iPhone 16 line in October when iOS 18.1 is released.

Apple Intelligence is available on all new iPhones. Of the previous generation, only the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max support the feature.

To run AI, the iPhone 16 line is equipped with the A18 and A18 Pro processors, designed by Apple itself. Last year, the company used two chips from different series: the A16 in the non-Pro models and the A17 Pro in the Pro and Pro Max versions.

iPhone 16 and 16 Plus cameras get a new look

As expected, the base iPhone 16 and 16 Plus have returned to the iPhone X/XR look. The “more affordable” models in the line now have cameras aligned vertically, rather than diagonally. The processor in these phones is the A18.

These versions also gained the action button, introduced in the iPhone 15 Pro models. The action button replaced the silent mode switch. The feature allows the user to set shortcuts on the button, such as activating the flashlight. The iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus also have a camera button.

New sensor for iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max

The Pro versions have received a camera upgrade and now have a 48 MP main sensor. The new generation of iPhones has gained more attention in the area of image and photo capture, and there is a dedicated camera button.

The Pro models are capable of recording 4K videos at up to 120 fps. The iPhone 16 Pro gets a feature from the Pro Max version: 5x zoom on its telephoto lens — the 15 Pro had 3x zoom. The Pro versions also got a new ultra-wide lens with a 48 MP sensor.

The iPhone 16 Pro Max is the largest iPhone ever made, with a screen measuring 6.9 inches. The phone continues to feature a titanium chassis. One advantage of this new size is the space for the largest battery ever used in an iPhone.

The new iPhone Pro models are capable of capturing spatial audio when recording spatial videos. The combination of these features is geared toward creating content for Apple’s Apple Vision Pro VR headset.
