Apple held an important event this Wednesday (7): the company revealed the iPhone 14, a new AirPods Pro with an updated chip and three models of the Apple Watch. l. Check out the summary with all the news.
iPhone 14 arrives with a taste of iPhone 13
The new crop of iPhones is a little…weird. The iPhone 14 line is equipped with the A15 Bionic, the same used in the previous generation.
With the launch, Apple no longer has the Mini version. The iPhone 14 continues with two size options: the traditional one, with a 6.1-inch screen, and the iPhone 14 Plus, with 6.7 inches.
The camera remains dual with a resolution of 12 megapixels but has new sensors with larger pixels. The front camera has a lens with an aperture of f/1.9 and autofocus, which should ensure better quality selfies in low-light environments.
Another novelty is the satellite emergency SOS mode: the owner of an iPhone 14 will be able to ask for help even in places without cellular or Wi-Fi signals. The service will be free for two years, but will only work in the United States and Canada.
n the United States, the new iPhones will be marketed without support for a physical chip, requiring the use of eSIM. In other countries, the iPhone 14 continues with the SIM Card tray.
iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max have 48 MP camera
One of the top launches of the day is the iPhone 14 Pro. The housing design is very similar to the previous generation, but the old notch has been transformed into a pill-shaped cutout, which integrates with the system interface for short information (Dynamic Island).
The Pro line also received a processor update: with 16 billion transistors, the A16 Bionic chip focuses on energy savings and has 6 cores, two of which are high-performance. The camera also brought news, with a 48-megapixel sensor on the main lens and f/1.78 aperture.
Apple has finally brought to the iPhone 14 Pro the Always On Display feature, which keeps the OLED screen always on with a darker tone. The devices will be marketed with 6.1-inch (iPhone 14 Pro) and 6.7-inch (iPhone 14 Pro Max) options.
Like the iPhone 14, the Pro models also have satellite communication for SOS. The product will be marketed in 128 GB, 256 GB, 512 GB and 1 TB versions. Whoever buys in the United States will receive a device without a chip tray, and the use of eSIM is mandatory.
Not one, not two, but three Apple Watch models
Smartwatches took up much of Apple’s presentation. The main launch is the Apple Watch Series 8: the appearance is practically identical to the previous model, but the wearable has gained the S8 chip, which promises 20% higher performance.
Another new feature of the Apple Watch 8 is the body temperature sensor. It will not be possible to use it as a conventional thermometer, but the equipment allows you to identify health changes and improve the monitoring of the menstrual cycle – which even informs if the body is ovulating.
The manufacturer also updated the Apple Watch SE: now with nylon back, the entry-level model uses the new S8 chip. Available in 40mm and 44mm versions, the wearable detects car accidents using motion sensors.
The big news focuses on the Apple Watch Ultra, a more advanced model aimed at demanding users, including practitioners of extreme sports. It has a larger case, measuring 49 mm, and an aerospace titanium body.
The Watch Ultra also uses the S8 chip and has an extra programmable button, a screen with a brightness of 2,000 nits and a battery with autonomy for 36 hours in normal use or 60 hours in low consumption mode. The watch is equipped with dual-precision GPS and supports diving to a depth of 40 m.
AirPods Pro 2 gets improved noise cancellation
A nice surprise at Apple’s event is the 2nd generation AirPods Pro. The new wireless headphones are equipped with the new H2 chip, which together with new drivers delivers higher sound quality.
On the outside, the AirPods Pro 2 look identical to the previous generation. However, the product has several improvements in noise cancellation: in addition to reducing noise twice as much, the transparency mode also reduces annoying sounds such as car or construction noises.
The model also has spatial audio, but now with a customized version for each user. The owner must scan their own ear through their iPhone’s TrueDepth camera — the same as Face ID — to get a more accurate result.
Another good change is in relation to the commands: through the touch-sensitive buttons, it is possible to control the volume by sliding your finger up and down.
The 2nd generation AirPods Pro case also gained news. It has a speaker, to help find the box through the Find My application; in addition, it is now more accurately locatable (like an AirTag) and also supports charging via MagSafe.
The battery has also improved: Apple promises up to 6 hours of playback on the new AirPods Pro, in addition to 30 hours when adding the capacity of the case. A 5-minute charge is enough for 1 hour of autonomy.
Apple Fitness+ Coming to iPhone
Apple also announced the arrival of Fitness+ on the iPhone even for those who don’t have an Apple Watch. The service will be available later in the spring, with more than 3,000 exercise and meditation classes.
Update for iOS 16 and watchOS 9
The final version of iOS 16 will be available for download starting September 12. With a customizable lock screen and new views for notifications, the system will initially only arrive on compatible iPhones.
In addition to the mobile version, watchOS 9 is also available starting September 12 for those who have a compatible Apple Watch. The update for iPads and Macs is not expected to arrive until October.
