According to Apple, there are now over 1 billion users of their smartphones in the world!
If you are one of them, you may be looking for some great iPhone tips and tricks to get the best from your device.
Well, look no further as we have compiled a list of seven of the best tips you need to make your life easier when using an iPhone. Read on to see how they can help you.
1. Turn Your Keyboard Into A TrackPad
If you have just typed a long paragraph of text and notice a typo near the beginning, you can use the trackpad feature to easily reach it without leaving the keyboard.
Holding down the spacebar will make the keyboard turn blank. You can now move the cursor anywhere you like on the screen. Once you reach the text you want to change, drop your cursor here and delete the offending text.
Releasing the space bar will allow you to return to type mode as normal.
2. Take Full-Size Screenshots
When you take a screenshot on your iPhone, you will notice a small thumbnail appears in the bottom left of your screen. Click on this to bring the screenshot up to full size.
If you were browsing Safari at the time and the web page is more than one screen long, you can still include the content in your screenshot. At the top of the preview, there should be a button for ‘Full Page.’
Selecting this allows you to view a screenshot of the whole web page, even though it was not in the original shot.
Suppose you lose a screenshot or other photo from your phone. You can use the recovery app from https://setapp.com/ to bring it back easily.
3. Set Custom Ringtones For Friends and Family
If your phone rings in your pocket, it can be useful to know who is calling without even having to look. Setting a custom ringtone for people in your address book is easy to do.
Head to your Contacts App and choose the contact whose ring or text tone you would like to change. Tap edit and then scroll to Ring Tone or Text Tone. Here you can choose what sound you would like to play when that person contacts you.
Unfortunately, at the moment, Apple will not let you use a music application with a custom ring tone.
4. Stop Siri Mispronouncing Your Name
If you find that Siri is constantly saying your name wrong, you can actually teach her how to say it properly. In fact, she can be taught to say anything the way that you want her to say it.
When she responds to you with an incorrect pronunciation, you need to reply with:
“That’s not how you say that.”
Siri will reply and ask you how do you pronounce the word and give you a list to choose from. Tap each option to see if it better matches your idea of the sound.
If none of the options matches, click ‘Tell Siri Again’ then you can just say the word again the way you would like it to be said. Siri will confirm the new pronunciation.
5. Define Your Back Taps
Back taps are set by default to taking screenshots, but they don’t have to be. You can customize them to perform multiple different features. This is a handy accessibility feature if you need extra help with some buttons on your phone. You need to ensure you have the latest version of the iOS and your iPhone is at least version 8 or higher for this to work.
Go to Settings > Accessibility > Touch and select the option for Back Tap. Here you configure what you would like the Double Tap or Triple Tap to do. There are several different options, including Lock Screen, Mute, Siri, and Adjust Volume.
Choose the new trigger you want, and you are all set.
6. Search Bar Calculator
Want to do a quick calculation but don’t want to open the full calculator? The iPhone search bar can perform simple calculations for you.
Simply swipe right on your home screen to access the bar, and then type in whatever calculations you need. The answer will appear on the screen for you.
7. Take A Screen Recording
There may be times when it is useful to show others something that is happening on your phone. It is a very useful feature for troubleshooting problems or showing someone else how to use an app. You can also use screen recording to share photos and videos in a pinch if other methods aren’t working.
Firstly, it is best to make sure that your screen recording controls are available from the Control Center. To do this, head to Settings > Control Center and make sure that the Included Controls list has Screen Recording added.
Then, you can press the record button from the Control Center to start a screen recording with ease and capture your screen. A warning will pop up stating that everything will be recorded, including pop-up notifications. If you do not want this to happen, put your phone in Do Not Disturb mode whilst you record.
You can also turn on and off your microphone to record your own voice over the top of the screen recording if you want to.
Bonus Tip: Boost Your Battery Life
Battery life can be a real drain for all smartphone users, but the iPhone has included a feature called Optimized Battery Charging. This will help you to extend your battery life.
This stops the phone from charging past 80% until you need to use it. Overcharging your battery is one of the factors that can cause the battery life to decrease over time.
Turn on this feature in Setting > Battery > Battery Health.
